Bertie the rescue cat has found a home, a family and his own office. In a retrospective report published on 5 October, the RSPCA describes how the one-eyed cat settled with Hannah Lawson and her family after his adoption in August 2024.

He arrived at the charity’s West Hatch Animal Centre in June 2024 as a poorly kitten with a damaged eye. Surgery followed in July. After recovering and adjusting to life with one eye, he was ready for a new home.

The family’s update describes a playful cat who enjoys toys, hiding in cupboards and sofa cuddles. Andy, Hannah’s husband, works from home, so they made Bertie an office from a cardboard box, with opening hours written on the front.

Bertie sleeps in it. An enviably clear understanding of the role.

Hannah also praises West Hatch’s follow-up support. For anyone preparing for their own new arrival, our [first-cat essentials checklist](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/first-cat-essentials/) covers the practical setup.
