## Which should you buy?

**Start with a freestanding tree for a fixed corner; choose floor-to-ceiling when you need to arrange the climbing route yourself.** Our conventional starting pick is the Feandrea 160 cm tree: a complete tower with a perch, cave and baskets.

It still needs its wall anti-tip attachment. If you can fit ceiling fixings and want adjustable steps and platforms, choose Omlet Freestyle instead.

A tall cat tree and a floor-to-ceiling tree solve different problems. One gives you a ready-made arrangement. The other lets you decide where the stops go. Neither gets to ignore how it attaches to the building.

## Choose freestanding for a ready-made layout

**The Feandrea is our starting choice when the job is simply to furnish a suitable corner.** Its perch, cave and baskets provide distinct resting positions without needing a component-by-component order. You can judge the arrangement as a whole before buying.

The manufacturer listing gives a 50 × 50 cm base and 160 cm height. The base is not a promise that every basket and perch stays within a 50 cm square. Use the [sizing guide and worksheet](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/cat-tree-size-guide/) to check the complete assembled outline, including overhang, against the space you have.

The compromise is the arrangement itself. If your cat needs a different route or your room puts a door beside the lower platform, a fixed design may be a poor match. Read the [large-cat buying guide](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/best-cat-trees-for-large-cats-uk/) for the full Feandrea recommendation and the limits of its advertised bed dimensions.

## Choose floor-to-ceiling for control over the route

**Omlet Freestyle earns the extra spending when changing the layout is useful to you.** You choose the accessories and their positions rather than accepting the arrangement of a conventional tower. Our starting configuration is Top Cat; the [Freestyle review](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/omlet-freestyle-cat-tree-review/) explains the choice.

According to Omlet, the shorter indoor poles secure into the ceiling; its larger pole kits also include a wall brace. This is an attached system, not a tension-only no-drill pole. Use the instructions for the exact pole range and get fitting advice if the attachment surface is uncertain.

A narrow pole does not remove the need for room. Platforms, steps and the cat’s approach still occupy space. Adjustable positions help you design around that space; they do not make the accessories disappear.

## Freestanding does not mean no fixing

“Freestanding” describes a tree supported from the floor. It does not cancel a manufacturer’s wall-restraint instruction. The Feandrea listing includes an anti-tip kit, and we recommend using it as directed.

For a rented home, establish whether the required attachment is permitted before ordering. If it is not, neither a heavy base nor a short ceiling gap is a reason to improvise. A lower resting place and a separate scratching surface may do the actual job with fewer installation demands, provided their own instructions suit the location.

Pressure-mounted products are a separate design. We have not included a verified one here, so this comparison makes no blanket no-drill recommendation. Read the exact manual rather than treating “floor-to-ceiling” as an installation method.

## Which takes up less room?

**Compare the complete arrangement in your room, not the catalogue category.** Mark its widest and deepest points, open nearby doors and drawers, and check the space at platform height. Keep a usable route onto the tree and back down.

For more than one cat, look at access to the resting places. Two beds reached through one narrow stopping point offer a different arrangement from two accessible routes. Choose the layout your household can use, rather than counting platforms as if each one were a separate room.

The [cat-tree sizing worksheet](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/cat-tree-size-guide/) records the room, clear sleeping space, route and fixing requirement on one page. It also gives you somewhere to put the measurements that the product listing forgot.

## Compare complete costs

A conventional tower normally lists one assembled product; a modular system needs a complete basket. Do not compare a tower with the price of a bare pole. Add required components, delivery and fitting where needed to each option.

Our [Omlet complete-cost guide](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/omlet-freestyle-cat-tree-cost-uk/) itemises three dated UK baskets, including the Top Cat starting setup. Use current checkout totals for the actual purchase. A flexible system is worth paying for when you will use the flexibility.

## Check before buying

- The exact model, colour and component list match the recommendation.
- The whole tree fits; the usable bed space and route suit your cat.
- You can complete every required attachment in the intended position.
- The delivered and fitted total fits your budget, and the return conditions are acceptable.

Think about the work after assembly too. Use the [cleaning table](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/how-to-clean-cat-tree/) for the Feandrea PCT003N01 and Omlet Freestyle, then check the [matched spares and model-identification guide](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/cat-tree-replacement-posts-pads/). Omlet has identified component routes; a removable Feandrea cover does not by itself promise an available spare.

## Our choice

**Buy the conventional Feandrea tree for a complete corner setup; buy Omlet Freestyle to create a route that a fixed tower cannot give you.** Both choices depend on being able to attach the product as instructed.

## Sources and selection

This is a researched layout comparison. Feandrea specifications and the included anti-tip kit were checked against its brand listing for PCT003N01 on Amazon UK on 2 October 2026\. Omlet installation details come from its [indoor-system support and manuals](https://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/cat%5Fproducts/freestyle-floor-to-ceiling-cat-tree-uk/support/?ref=catstandard.co.uk). Dimensions are manufacturer-stated. Our recommendations concern those documented designs and the buying decision. Read [our standards](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/our-standards/).
