## Our verdict

**Choose Omlet Freestyle if you want to set the climbing route yourself and replace individual components later.** The Top Cat configuration is our starting pick: a platform, two steps and scratching rope.

**The main drawback is installation:** the pole needs suitable ceiling fixing. Our checked setup cost £296.49 with the displayed UK delivery on 2 October 2026; fitting costs extra if needed.

Freestyle makes most sense when a fixed cat tree is nearly right, except for where everything is. You choose the positions of the resting places and the route between them. The cat retains the right to ignore your floor plan.

## The configuration we would start with

**Top Cat offers the useful middle ground: somewhere to scratch, two intermediate steps and a cushioned resting platform.** Our basket used the 2.15–2.60 m pole, base sisal rope, two yellow-cushioned steps, a yellow-cushioned platform and a pot holder with pot. No plant was included.

The goods cost £290; displayed delivery added £6.49\. The basket was in stock at our 2 October check. That delivery quote had the UK selected but no postcode entered, so confirm your own delivered total. The pot is decorative rather than essential to the cat’s route.

Our [complete UK cost guide](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/omlet-freestyle-cat-tree-cost-uk/) lists every component and compares this with the Beginner and two-pole baskets. It also separates the price of a pole from the cost of a usable setup.

## What the modular design gives you

The main benefit is control over the layout. Place the lower steps within comfortable reach, choose a resting height and leave a clear way down. You can add another pole or different accessories later instead of deciding on the final arrangement at checkout.

This is particularly useful when you know where your cat likes to sit but a conventional tower puts its main bed somewhere else. It also lets you buy for the behaviour you already see: a platform for a cat that sprawls, or an appropriate sheltered accessory for one that seeks a hideaway.

Omlet’s [dimension sheet](https://www.omlet.co.uk/files/public/manual/2024/05/830.2229-instruction-manual-freestyle-cat-tree-dimensions-by-omlet.pdf?ref=catstandard.co.uk) gives a 56 × 56 cm outer platform frame and 22 × 35 cm steps. These are manufacturer-stated component dimensions, not measurements of unobstructed sleeping space. Allow for the cushion edges and the platform’s overhang when checking fit.

## Installation is the deciding check

**Freestyle must be secured as instructed; it is not a tension-only, no-drill purchase.** Measure the ceiling height at the intended location and use the correct pole range and fixing arrangement. Omlet’s [support guidance and assembly manuals](https://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/cat%5Fproducts/freestyle-floor-to-ceiling-cat-tree-uk/support/?ref=catstandard.co.uk) explain the ceiling and wall requirements and recommend professional fitting if you are unsure.

A slim pole does not mean the finished tree occupies only that strip of floor. The platform, step positions and approach determine how much room the cat needs. Plan the whole arrangement before ordering, especially beside a doorway or busy walking route.

## Cleaning and replacing worn parts

The removable fabrics and separately sold scratching components are a useful upkeep advantage. Omlet distinguishes between woven fabrics, which it says can take a gentle 40°C machine wash, and faux-sheepskin fabrics, which it specifies for hand washing at 40°C. Its instructions rule out tumble drying, ironing and bleach. Follow the label for the actual item you buy.

For the frame and platforms, follow the manufacturer’s surface-care instructions rather than treating every part like washable bedding. Our [cat-tree cleaning guide](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/how-to-clean-cat-tree/) gives a sensible working order, and the [replacement-parts guide](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/cat-tree-replacement-posts-pads/) explains how to match a worn component.

For the Top Cat configuration, our parts guide identifies the base kit’s replacement rope and a platform cushion. Match those components to your order: the separately sold scratching-post wrap is a different part.

We see replacing a worn part as the strongest practical argument for the system. It avoids treating one tired cushion as a reason to replace the whole structure. That does not establish a measured environmental saving or a guaranteed lifespan.

## Check before buying

- **Room and fixing:** confirm ceiling height, suitable attachment and permission to drill where relevant.
- **Cat and layout:** check usable bed space, comfortable step intervals and a clear way on and off.
- **Basket contents:** choose the correct pole, brackets, cushions and scratching component; the pictures show different configurations.
- **Total and returns:** check postcode delivery and any fitting cost. Omlet currently advertises a 180-day return period for eligible purchases; read its [return conditions](https://www.omlet.co.uk/misc/returns/?ref=catstandard.co.uk), including packaging and Outlet exclusions.

## Is Omlet Freestyle worth it?

**Yes, if you will use the adjustable layout and separate components.** Start with Top Cat for a balanced scratching, climbing and resting setup, then add only what your cat gives you a reason to add.

If you simply need one ready-made tower in a spare corner, the extra cost may buy flexibility you will never use. Compare the [complete-tower alternative](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/best-cat-trees-for-large-cats-uk/) before spending more.

[Build your Freestyle setup at Omlet](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=76702&awinaffid=2914431&clickref=catstandard-premium-furniture&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.omlet.co.uk%2Fshop%2Fcat%5Fproducts%2Ffreestyle-floor-to-ceiling-cat-tree-uk%2F&ref=catstandard.co.uk)

Before configuring the layout, work through our [room and cat sizing worksheet](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/cat-tree-size-guide/). If you are still choosing a structure, compare [Freestyle-style systems with freestanding trees](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/floor-to-ceiling-vs-freestanding-cat-tree/).

## How we researched this review

This is a researched assessment of Omlet’s indoor Freestyle system, using its component dimensions, assembly and care instructions, affiliate-supplied imagery and UK basket checks on 2 October 2026\. Our verdict concerns the design and buying decision; owner-use findings are not claimed. See [our editorial standards](https://www.catstandard.co.uk/our-standards/).
