Cecil and Barty find a home together after Blue Cross foster care

The kittens became close companions in foster care and were adopted together by Jen and Charlie.

Cecil and Barty have found a home together after becoming companions in Blue Cross foster care. Together for Animals follows their friendship through surgery and life with adopters Jen and Charlie.

Cecil was four weeks old when he and two siblings were abandoned outside the charity’s Merton animal hospital in south London. He weighed 330g, with an inward-curving rib cage. Amanda, a Blue Cross welfare officer, fostered the kittens while he grew stronger.

Barty arrived separately, after being found alone on a building site and treated for anaemia and fleas. Amanda introduced him gradually. Cecil, smaller than his siblings, soon formed a bond with him.

After surgery, Cecil needed a cast and time apart from Barty to protect it. During supervised reunions they groomed each other, ate and slept together. A month after the operation, an X-ray showed the intended chest expansion and the cast came off.

Jen and Charlie adopted both kittens after 96 days in care for Cecil and 95 for Barty. They report stairway chases and games with spring toys; Barty climbed onto Charlie’s lap on his first day.
