How we work

Our standards

Your cat has standards. Ours come with an explanation.

Show our working.

We aim to make recommendations you can examine: what a product does, what it costs, where the information comes from and what remains uncertain.

Testing means testing.

We label hands-on experience and distinguish it from research based on specifications and other sources. One cat’s preference is one cat’s preference. Goldfish is a contributor, not a representative sample.

The whole price.

Where relevant, we consider consumables, replacement parts and delivery alongside the purchase price. Prices and availability can change; dated checks and clear assumptions matter.

Affiliate links, clearly labelled.

When an article contains affiliate links, we will say so prominently. We may earn a commission if you buy through them. Commercial relationships do not turn a product into a recommendation.

Room to be wrong.

We will correct errors and explain material updates. We distinguish facts from opinions, and say when evidence is limited. Humility should be useful, not a paragraph of small print.

Less waste, without the halo.

We look for specific evidence behind environmental claims. Keeping a useful product can be a better starting point than shopping for its replacement.
