A family whose home was flooded on the Navajo Nation is receiving help to stay with their cat and dog. Best Friends Animal Society is paying for several nights of pet-friendly accommodation, according to the charity’s 28 October update on its flood response.
The team assisted the family on 27 October. Floodwater had contaminated their home, leaving it uninhabitable. While the charity covers the temporary stay, Navajo Nation leadership is working to connect the household with further assistance. The report does not identify the family or announce a permanent housing solution.
The wider disruption is described in a 25 October Navajo Nation Council bulletin. Reporting on a briefing in Shiprock the previous day, it documents displaced families, damaged infrastructure and coordination between emergency services. Best Friends was among the organisations providing updates on animal needs.
By 28 October, the charity reported seven staff working on the Navajo Nation alongside animal control, rangers and local leadership. Its team had brought four trailers of supplies and an all-terrain vehicle to help get food and other essentials into communities where damaged roads had restricted access.
Separately, its 27 October update describes financial help for displaced residents near Bluff and Blanding in Utah to access pet-friendly lodging. The human evacuation shelter in Blanding could not accommodate pets at that time.
