Scruff, rescued from a Maidstone car wash, has found a home with rescue kitten Clara. The RSPCA’s account follows him from a mechanic’s call for help to beds, windowsill watching and the children’s toy stable in his new household.
The mechanic spotted a stray cat family at the car wash in July 2026. RSPCA animal rescue volunteer Adam Tasker brought them to safety using humane traps. Among them was Scruff, a weak black-and-white kitten covered in oil and badly affected by fleas and parasites.
At the charity’s Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone Branch, cattery manager Katie Harris and her team cared for him. The RSPCA says anaemia had left his back legs unsteady, while poor nutrition had left him underweight. Treatment, cleaning and regular meals helped him regain strength. His name came from his scruffy appearance on arrival.
He was rehomed with Clara, who had been born at the Maidstone cattery. They now live with Fae and her family. Fae describes Scruff exploring the house and both kittens squeezing into the girls’ toy horse stable. Scruff also enjoys curling up on beds and playing with the toy horses.
