A microchip feeder answers a different question: which cat can access food. Don't assume selective access also means timed meals or cooling. Our general feeder buying guide explains those mechanisms.

Ice packs and active cooling are not the same as a fridge

An ice pack provides stored cold that gradually runs out. Closer Pets says cooling duration depends on the location and room temperature, and recommends monitoring an ice pack in the intended room. A 48-hour timer is a scheduling range, not a promise that wet food remains suitable for 48 hours.

The Polar's UK FAQ reports food at around 12°C in a 25°C room during manufacturer lab tests. That is cooler than the room, but warmer than normal refrigerated storage. Its “up to 72 hours” preservation claim should not override your food's storage instructions.

FDA pet-food guidance says to promptly refrigerate or discard unused or leftover canned and pouched food, with the refrigerator at 40°F or below—approximately 4°C. Our conclusion: a feeder's cooling claim alone does not establish that it meets the storage conditions on your particular food.

Check the food and feeder instructions together before planning a delayed meal. If the food requires refrigeration and the feeder cannot maintain that condition, arrange freshly served food instead. A cold-feeling lid or an uneaten meal's appearance is not a temperature measurement.

Cat Mate C200: for two separately timed meals

The C200 is worth considering when you want a straightforward timed lid without an app. Its two timers let you set the compartments separately. The white version linked here has standard bowls and an ice pack; it is not the stainless-steel-insert bundle.

The manufacturer's C200 support page describes analogue timing and warns that lids may open before or after the set time. That takes precedence over the Amazon title's “digital timer” wording. Choose a digital model if tighter scheduling is central to the purchase.

Cat Mate C500: for more scheduled servings

The C500 is the stronger fit of these two Cat Mate models when you need more later meals and digital controls. Five compartments means one immediate serving plus four scheduled openings. It does not mean five unopened meals waiting behind a lid.

The Pet Mate C500 manual specifies meal times in ten-minute increments. Its food-storage section calls for freezing the ice packs for at least six hours and cautions against leaving wet food for long periods in very warm conditions. Follow the manual supplied with your model and your food's instructions.

The grey listing below is the standard-bowl version with twin ice packs. Stainless steel inserts are a separate variant or additional purchase. The lid and bowl can go in the dishwasher; the base cannot.

PETLIBRO Polar: active cooling with app controls

Polar is the option to investigate if rotating frozen packs is the chore you want to remove. The UK listing linked here is the three-compartment stainless steel version, not the older plastic-tray option.

It uses mains-powered semiconductor cooling and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi app controls. Those features add convenience, but also give you more to check: socket placement, available space, cleaning access and what happens if power or connectivity fails.

The manufacturer recommends a 12–30°C ambient range and pauses cooling around 30 minutes before serving. Read the temperature comparison above before buying it for extended food storage. We would not choose it solely on the “72 hours” headline.

Before relying on a wet-food feeder

• Count later openings. Write down the meals you need and which compartment becomes available at each time.
• Check access. Let your cat get used to the lid or rotating tray while you are home. Goldfish's confidence in machinery is not transferable by warranty.
• Plan food handling. Follow storage limits, prepare ice packs as instructed and arrange prompt removal of leftovers. Don't treat a timer's maximum range as your target.
• Budget for the routine. Include batteries where required, freezer space or electricity, and exact-compatible spare bowls or packs. None of these removes washing-up.

• Observe a scheduled meal. Check the correct food becomes accessible at the expected time. Have an ordinary bowl ready if it doesn't.

For a rotating wet-food tray, weigh the portion as you fill each compartment. The repeated-dispense procedure in our portion guide is for dry-food hopper machines.

If you are away, a feeder is only one part of the arrangement. Cats Protection recommends a sitter visit at least twice daily, with care adapted to your cat. Someone still needs to check water, leftovers, the litter tray and the cat herself.
