Who should buy the PETKIT PURA MAX 2?
Buy it for the lower step than Neakasa or to keep using a compatible tofu or mixed clumping litter. The enclosed cylinder still needs enough usable space for your cat.

| Item | PURA MAX 2 specification |
|---|---|
| Outside dimensions | 62 × 53.8 × 55.2cm; P9902 manual, page 26 |
| Entrance | 20cm; exact UK listing |
| Empty weight | About 10kg; manual |
| Age and lower weight | Manual specifies cats older than six months and advises against use below 1.5kg. |
| Upper size claim | Current UK listing describes cats up to 18lb, about 8.2kg. Check the exact supplied model’s limit; do not assume an older 10kg claim applies. |
| Litter choice | Standard sifter for tofu/mixed; honeycomb fine sifter for mineral litter. |
Use PETKIT’s exact P9902 manual to plan a clear approach, space to pull the drawer out and room to remove the cylinder. Put it on a hard, flat floor without wall contact. The automatic litter-box planner helps you allow for those jobs.
The low entrance is its clearest advantage
The stated 20cm lip is 15.2cm lower than Neakasa’s 35.2cm entrance. That makes PETKIT the clearer access choice between these two when a high step is the obstacle. It does not make the machine suitable for every older or mobility-impaired cat: compare confident entry, turning and exit with her present tray, and keep that familiar tray available.
Two sifters give you more litter choice
The manual’s sifter and grain guidance separates tofu/mixed from fine mineral litter and limits particles to 12mm long and 3mm across. The current UK listing excludes crystal litter. Match the sifter, grain size and MAX line rather than treating “clumping” as universal compatibility. Our automatic-box litter guide compares the exact-model rules.
What the cleaning cycle changes
The rotating cylinder sifts clumped waste into the drawer. You still empty waste, top up litter, inspect sensors and clean removable parts. The cleaning instructions distinguish the washable cylinder and sifter from the pad and powered base: wipe the base, never rinse or soak it, and reassemble only when dry.
The N50 odour insert is a recurring cost if you maintain that part of the system; the manual gives about a month per insert. Premium-package spray hardware is a separate bundle feature, not something to assume comes with every offer. Price your intended bags, litter and odour refills with our running-cost worksheet.
Safety depends on setup and mode
The exact manual describes Kitten Mode disabling automatic and periodic cleaning. It also says Continuous Rotation changes the response to an approaching cat. Keep that option off during introduction and read the exact mode instructions before changing it. Sensor marketing does not override the manual’s age, weight, floor and assembly rules. Follow our automatic litter-box safety guide and check the cat and tray each day; waste-bin capacity is not permission to leave a cat without care.
The app is a log, not a diagnosis
The app logs visits and waste-bin status and provides cleaning controls. Use it to spot changes, then look at the cat and tray; health concerns need veterinary advice. The UK listing describes identification by weight, so inspect questionable readings, especially with similar-weight cats.
What buyers report
Buyer feedback reviewed on 17 September praised quieter cleaning, odour containment and acceptance, but also described inconsistent app/weight records, uneven drawer filling and leaks. These are individual reports, not a measured failure rate. Amazon showed a frequently-returned notice on 6 October but not at the 17 October recheck; that change alone tells us nothing about product reliability.

| Choose | Checked price | Deciding reason |
|---|---|---|
| PETKIT PURA MAX 2 | £399.99 | 20cm entrance and two documented litter sifters; enclosed cylinder. |
| Neakasa M1 Plus | £359.99 | Open top, but a 35.2cm entrance and stricter grain limits. |
The displayed offers differed by £40 on 17 October 2026: PETKIT £399.99 and Neakasa £359.99. Choose on the problem each design solves. Read the Neakasa research review if an open top matters most.
How to introduce it without forcing the issue
Keep the old tray, use familiar compatible litter and let the cat investigate before enabling automatic cycles. Do not place or hold her inside the cylinder. Follow the gradual introduction plan and retain the packaging while you assess the machine and your cat’s acceptance.
PETKIT PURA MAX 2 verdict
Choose PETKIT for its lower entrance and litter flexibility. Its Amazon offer was £399.99 on 17 October 2026, before separately charged delivery or optional extras. Buy it if the enclosed cylinder fits your cat and you can keep up with the cleaning.
